DUI opposes the reallocation of €6 million for Hasan Prishtina Boulevard

Bekim Rexhepi, a former deputy minister of Transport and Communications from the ranks of the DUI, reacted today to the decision to change the allocation of €6 million earmarked for Hasan Prishtina Boulevard.

According to Rexhepi, it is unreasonable for the funds to be used for the underground road on South Boulevard while the government is promoting the continuation of work on the Skopje–Blace motorway.

He stressed that this was a project planned earlier, not a new initiative or an electoral promise. In 2023, the Ministry of Transport and the City of Skopje formed a joint commission to prepare the urban plan. The plan was drafted, agreed upon and approved, and envisaged the construction and expansion of Hasan Prishtina Boulevard as one of Skopje’s main links with Blace and Kosovo.

Rexhepi said that during the DUI–SDSM government, €6 million had been secured for this project, which, according to him, had an approved plan and guaranteed funding. However, the VMRO-DPMNE–VLEN government has transferred these funds to another investment: the underground road on South Boulevard.

“At the same time, the government is holding ceremonies to mark the continuation of the Skopje–Blace motorway. The question is clear: What is the value of the motorway to Blace if the road that is supposed to connect it with Skopje remains in its current condition, with bottlenecks, traffic jams and daily chaos?” Rexhepi said.

He added that the construction of the motorway toward Blace and the removal of funds from the road that is supposed to connect this route with Skopje cannot proceed in parallel. “Therefore, the DUI is asking publicly: Why is Hasan Prishtina Boulevard being sacrificed?” Rexhepi said.
