DUI accuses VLEN of unacceptable political pressure on the justice system

The Democratic Union for Integration has reacted to VLEN’s statements regarding the Prosecutor’s Office and the “Lottery” case, describing them as a scandalous and unacceptable form of political pressure on the justice authorities.

According to DUI, the way VLEN openly addressed the Prosecutor’s Office has caused public outrage. The party stressed that today’s reaction and the institution’s direct singling out have scandalized the entire public.

DUI emphasizes that reports from the international community have repeatedly raised concerns about government pressure on the Prosecutor’s Office and the courts. According to the party, VLEN’s position made public today has only reinforced these suspicions.

Referring also to the European Union report, DUI says that it identifies serious concerns regarding political interference in the rule of law. It calls on prosecutors and courts to make decisions based on evidence and not on political or party instructions, since selective party-based justice serves neither the citizens nor North Macedonia.

The party says it has conveyed its concerns to its international partners, including VLEN’s reaction today. DUI appeals for European and non-selective justice, recalling that prosecutors are accountable and must act in accordance with the law, evidence and expert assessments, rather than according to party orders or wishes.

In the continuation of its reaction, DUI claims that VLEN is attempting to conceal its “incompetence and complete failure” through what it describes as political persecution and the exertion of pressure on the Prosecutor’s Office.

DUI has also made accusations against several VLEN figures, calling for investigations to begin within the party itself. It names Izet Mexhiti and Visar Ganiu over more than 250 million euros in damage caused by illegal construction, Burim Latifi over more than 19 million euros in damage to the budget, as well as Nedim Rama and other wrongdoers from VLEN’s ranks.
