Dr. Liljana Ristevska takes over as head of the Red Cross of North Macedonia

Dr. Liljana Ristevska has been elected President of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia for a new four-year term, at the constitutive-election session of the organization’s Assembly. According to the official announcement, she becomes the first woman to lead the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia since the country’s independence.

This decision is considered a development of historic importance for the country’s largest humanitarian organization and, at the same time, recognition of her many years of commitment, professionalism and active role in advancing the Red Cross.

In the statement by the Red Cross of RNM, it is said that Ristevska takes on this responsibility after more than two decades of experience in the organization, where she has contributed as a volunteer, as president of the Municipal Red Cross Organization in Bitola and as the current vice president of the National Society.

According to the same announcement, she enters this term with the aim of building a modern, stronger and more open Red Cross, prepared to face the humanitarian challenges of the time.

During the new leadership period, the emphasis will be placed on strengthening volunteerism and membership, developing local organizations, advancing humanitarian services, transparent management and deepening partnerships within the country, as well as within the framework of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Her election as the first woman in this post since Macedonia’s independence is seen as an important step for the further advancement of equal opportunities and leadership in the humanitarian sector, while at the same time continuing the Red Cross mission of serving people with humanity, impartiality and solidarity.
