Democratic Party asks Peleshi to implement Constitutional Court ruling on investigation into the May 11 elections

The Democratic Party has sent an official request to Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi, calling on him to implement the Constitutional Court’s ruling concerning the establishment of an investigative commission into the use of state resources and the involvement of organized crime in the May 11 elections.

The request was signed by the head of the Democratic Party’s Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, who called for the immediate launch of parliamentary procedures to implement Constitutional Court decision No. 62/2026.

According to the Democrats’ argument, the ruling was published in Official Gazette No. 157 on July 22, 2026, and entered into force on the same date. The Democratic Party emphasizes that, under Article 87 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, the Legislative Council’s review of the matter should have been completed within 30 days.

In the letter addressed to Peleshi, the Democratic Party’s Parliamentary Group states that more than two months have passed without the procedures being initiated. According to the group, the Parliament speaker, as the authority responsible for launching the parliamentary process, is violating Article 132 of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.

Gazment Bardhi considers this stance institutional inaction, while claiming that the delay is harming the rights of the parliamentary minority and the principles of the rule of law.

“The refusal or delay in implementing the decisions of the Constitutional Court is unacceptable to the opposition,” the document sent by the parliamentary group states.

The Democratic Party is calling on the Parliament speaker to take immediate measures to implement the Constitutional Court’s ruling, as well as to fulfill the obligations set out in the letter from the Democratic Party’s Parliamentary Group, No. 3452 Prot., dated 27.07.2026.
