Criminal charges filed against Jakimovski over suspected irregularities in building permits

The Department for Economic Crime and Corruption, in cooperation with the Skopje Police Department, has filed criminal charges against three people, including Stevčo Jakimovski, the former mayor of the Municipality of Karpoš.

Jakimovski is listed as the third person charged and is suspected of “irresponsible work in office.” Meanwhile, two officials from the Municipality of Karpoš are suspected of abusing their official positions.

Police said the officials approved building permits for investors even though they knew that the urban planning documentation for the site had previously been annulled by the Constitutional Court.

According to police allegations, one of the permits was issued on July 23, 2025, enabling the investors to unlawfully obtain the right to construct a building valued at around 10.4 million denars.

The authorities allege that other building permits were also issued even though the documentation was incomplete and the projects did not comply with urban plans. Another case concerns a structure registered as a “shelter” which, according to police, had been built in a public area and was not provided for in the urban plan.

The investigative procedure was conducted on the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje. The criminal complaint has been submitted to that institution for further proceedings.
