Convoy of cars and Albanian flags stopped in Montenegro, diaspora member: We will come to the protest even through the mountains

Fatjon Muçaj, an Albanian living in the diaspora, has reported that the convoy he is traveling with from England to Albania to take part in tomorrow’s protest has been stopped. In a statement to News24, he said he had been stranded for around four hours at the Nikšić border crossing in Montenegro, while the authorities had given them no explanation for the stoppage.

According to Muçaj, around 30 vehicles have been stopped at this border crossing. He claimed that an order was behind the blockade, linking it to Prime Minister Edi Rama, since the travelers are coming to Albania for the protest.

He explained that several other cars had also been stopped, while some members of the convoy had used different border crossings to avoid the obstacles.

Muçaj said that his decision to leave Albania was linked to the lack of opportunities and his belief that employment should be determined by skills, not by money or connections.

“We want a fair, democratic country that provides jobs based on skills, not money and connections. That is why I left. Most of my friends, who went to school with me, graduated and could not find work,” he declared.

As he waits for a response from the authorities on whether he will be allowed to cross into Albania, the Albanian from the diaspora said he was determined not to give up taking part in the protest. He declared that, if necessary, he would also take illegal routes and cross through the mountains to enter the country.

“But Edi Rama will not stop us in any way from entering our country. We will continue; we will take illegal routes. We will enter and come through the mountains. We left by dinghies and trucks for England, let alone for Albania!” he said.

The diaspora is expected to join tomorrow’s protest in Tirana.
