Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have announced that the number of confirmed Ebola cases has reached 1,155, while 304 people have died.
The latest bulletin shows that 37 new cases were identified in the past 24 hours and 5 deaths were recorded, reflecting the continued spread of the virus in the country.

According to health officials, increased epidemiological surveillance has helped with earlier detection of cases; however, the spread of the virus continues to rise from week to week.
The current outbreak, declared on May 15, is linked to the rare Budibugio strain, for which there is no specific treatment or vaccine. Unlike the Zaire variant, for which a vaccine exists, this strain is considered more difficult to bring under control.
Authorities suspect the virus may have circulated undetected for a period of time before the outbreak was declared, making it more difficult to trace the chain of infection.
Ebola is still considered one of the deadliest viruses in Africa, with a mortality rate that, according to the World Health Organization, ranges from 25% to 90%. Over the past decades, various outbreaks of this virus have caused the deaths of thousands of people across the continent.
