CNN, MS NOW and Politico take the Trump administration to court over White House access restrictions

CNN, MS NOW and Politico have announced that they will sue the administration of President Donald Trump after their journalists were denied entry to the White House.

The three media organizations are expected to file the case in federal court in Washington. In their argument, they stress that the decision violates the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and constitutes an infringement of press freedom.

A draft of the lawsuit alleges that the journalists’ credentials were revoked without warning and without due process. According to the media outlets, the measure was taken in response to reporting that the administration considered negative.

As a result of the decision, reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico are not allowed to enter the White House grounds. Meanwhile, CNN and MS NOW have also been barred from using their television equipment and reporting positions, even outside the building.

The conflict escalated after Trump said he was not required to allow certain media outlets into the White House and criticized the way they reported. The three organizations argue that the restriction affects not only the journalists and newsrooms involved, but also the public’s right to receive independent information about the government’s activities.
