The race for Michigan’s seat in the U.S. Senate has taken a more contentious turn following Vice President JD Vance’s involvement in the election campaign.

Vance backed Republican candidate Mike Rogers and, during a rally, described his Democratic rival, Abdul El-Sayed, as an “evil” figure who fuels division.
According to the vice president, El-Sayed wants to “destroy” the country and has no intention of bringing communities in the United States together.
The harsh political rhetoric also extended to Vance’s family. He asked the Democratic candidate to “keep my wife’s name out of your mouth” after El-Sayed made comments that, according to the vice president, implied that his late grandfather would not have accepted Usha Vance, the Second Lady of the United States, because she is Hindu.
El-Sayed later clarified his position, stating that the criticism was not directed at any particular person but at a political philosophy that, in his view, suggests that some Americans are “more American than others.”
During his speech in Michigan, Vance repeatedly linked El-Sayed to left-wing influencer Hasan Piker.
The vice president referred to Piker’s previous comments about the September 11 terrorist attacks and claimed that El-Sayed had campaigned alongside him.
However, the statements cited by Vance were not made by El-Sayed, while the Democratic candidate had previously distanced himself from Piker.
Despite this fact, Vance used the connection between the two figures as one of the main points of his attack on the Democratic candidate.
In an interview with CNN, El-Sayed responded to the accusations by directing the term “evil” at the Trump administration and its policies.
According to the BBC, the Democrat denounced the administration’s economic and social policies, saying they had placed a burden on American families while benefiting billionaires.
“Evil is taking health care away from working people in exchange for tax breaks for billionaires.”
El-Sayed also attacked tariffs and trade policies, the rising cost of food and fuel, as well as the involvement of the United States in conflicts abroad.
“Evil is dividing people for your own benefit” and “selling your morals for a little power,” he said.
