Chief Prosecutor Isufaj at Zubin Potok Mass Grave: Identifying the Bodies Will Take Time

Blerim Isufaj, Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, has visited the village of Kalludër in Zubin Potok, where a mass grave was discovered on Tuesday. It is suspected to contain the bodies of 23 intellectuals from Mitrovica who were killed during the war in Kosovo.

Speaking to the media, Isufaj announced that the excavation process had already begun and that, at this stage, the remains discovered have been confirmed as human.

He praised the efforts of the Kosovo Police, his colleagues and the staff of the Special Prosecution Office, as well as the professional work of the Forensic Medicine team in identifying the remains.

The Special Chief Prosecutor stressed that it is not yet possible to determine when the process will be completed, as excavations at the mass grave may take time.

According to Isufaj, the identification must be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, and each body must be verified through DNA testing. He explained that the remains cannot be removed immediately because the human body must first be reconstructed, after which they can be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further procedures.

Finally, Isufaj called for public statements about the case to be kept to a minimum, warning that they could undermine or derail the process.
