Çeku: The Amount of the Textbook Subsidy Is Expected to Be Set During the Day

Hajrullah Çeku, acting Minister of Education and Science, announced that talks with publishing houses on textbook prices have entered their final phase, while the subsidy amount is expected to be decided during the day.

He expressed confidence that the process would be concluded during the day, immediately paving the way for the execution of payments. According to Çeku, this will give parents sufficient time during the remaining days before classes begin on Tuesday to buy textbooks and school materials.

Çeku said that the books had been put on the market while negotiations with publishers were still ongoing, an action he described as a violation.

According to him, the textbooks should not have gone on sale before the talks were concluded, the prices were determined and the subsidy amount was set.

Regarding this case, the Ministry will refer the matter to the responsible institutions. Çeku said that the affected parents should be compensated by those who committed the violation.

The acting minister emphasized that the main focus now is on concluding the negotiations, setting the subsidy amount and transferring the funds as quickly as possible.

He explained that the payments must be made without delay so that, during the four or five days remaining before the start of the school year, parents can buy the textbooks and materials together with their children.

Çeku also announced that preparations for the start of the new school year had been carried out in this regard.

He said that during the day they had also taken part in a discussion with the National Audit Office, where the police had confirmed that they had prepared the operational plan drawn up every year. According to him, the aim is for the school year to begin smoothly, with safety, textbooks, school materials and all the necessary preparations in place.
