Cana: No Evidence of Gastrointestinal Problems from Drinking Water in Skopje

The Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje has recorded no evidence of people experiencing gastrointestinal problems as a result of drinking tap water in the capital. The clinic’s director, Dr. Fadil Cana, said this today in response to journalists’ questions regarding claims published on social media that water in Skopje had caused health problems in several patients.

Cana explained that, in his capacity as head of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, he could confirm that the institution had no data on any patients with water-related gastrointestinal problems. According to him, such a case would have to be recorded in accordance with diagnostic procedures.

He said that a normal increase in the number of patients has currently been observed, linked to the high temperatures. Although there has been an increase, the figures do not exceed the usual levels recorded in previous years and remain within what is expected during this period. Cana reiterated that there was no evidence of gastrointestinal problems caused by drinking water.

The director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases gave these answers following a press conference at the Ministry of Health. During the conference, he reported on the West Nile fever situation in the country and at the clinic, the number of people affected, and cases involving severe clinical symptoms.
