Camorra Boss in Naples Executed with Shotgun, 69-Year-Old Found Dead in His Vehicle

A brutal assassination has shocked the Naples area in Italy, once again drawing attention to possible clashes between Camorra clans.

Raffaele Afeltra, 69, known as one of the leaders of the criminal organization and a member of the Afeltra-Di Martino faction in Pimonte, was found dead inside his car.

According to preliminary findings from the investigation, the victim was the target of a planned ambush. Individuals who have yet to be identified approached him and fired several times with a 12-gauge shotgun.

He was struck by the gunfire in a merciless attack that left the 69-year-old no chance of survival.

His body was discovered near a plot of land in the Lattari Mountains area, on a property linked to Afeltra.

Carabinieri from the Castellammare di Stabia company arrived at the scene, along with the Torre Annunziata Investigative Unit. Authorities have begun working to reconstruct the full circumstances of the killing.

At this stage, no perpetrator has been identified, while the exact motive for the execution has yet to be determined.

Investigators are also examining a possible link to the victim’s criminal past and rivalries between opposing groups. This has raised suspicions that old conflicts between clans may have resurfaced.

Afeltra, known in criminal circles by the nickname “O’ burraccione,” had a long history of involvement with the Camorra.

In 2019, he turned himself in to the authorities after spending a short period on the run. He later served a final sentence for extortion carried out as part of Camorra activities.

However, he had spent approximately the past three years out of prison.

The investigation is now focused on his recent movements, his relationships with criminal groups and possible conflicts that may have culminated in his murder.

For the Italian authorities, this execution could be an important indicator of the criminal situation in the Pimonte area and in territory historically controlled by Camorra groups.
