Burjani: The solution lies through a coalition with the LDK, otherwise the country will go to elections

Although Albulena Haxhiu has been elected speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, she continues to serve as the country’s president during this period.

She will hold both positions until a solution is found for the election of Kosovo’s new president.

However, it remains unclear what will happen if a new president is not elected by October 6, the date on which the specified deadline expires.

In such a case, the institutions will face the need to determine the next steps, while political parties have limited time to avoid another institutional crisis.

In a statement to “Bota sot,” jurist Blerim Burjani said that greater political engagement is needed to reach a compromise, as otherwise early elections cannot be avoided.

According to him, Haxhiu has been tasked with this responsibility, and a president must be elected within 60 days. If the process fails, the country will go to early elections, as this is the available deadline for electing the head of state.

Burjani said that the main responsibility for finding a solution now lies with VV. He stressed that if an agreement is not reached, the constitutional deadline will continue to run and Kosovo will be forced to hold new elections.

As an alternative, the jurist mentioned forming a classic coalition with the LDK, under which the party would be given the presidency and five ministries. According to him, such an agreement would clarify the situation, while in its absence the road leads directly to elections.
