Brace: Albania Needs Tourist Resorts Like the Project in Zvernec, the Protest Is Being Led by Unelected Party Figures Like Lapaj and Qori

Socialist Party MP Erion Brace also commented on the planned project in Zvernec during an interview on “Shqiperia Live”.

According to him, the Albanian economy needs tourist resorts of this standard, while warning that blocking such an investment could create obstacles that would later be difficult to overcome.

“I think we very much need tourist resorts, and we need them at this level. The economic potential of the investors who have expressed interest in Zvernec is what guarantees, with the necessary restrictions that must be imposed by the government, the Territorial Development Agency, or ultimately the National Territorial Council, which grants the final construction permit, the ability to find a sustainable balance in that area between the environment and the interests of tourism, which for the past two or three years have already been fundamental interests, vital interests for the national economy. This is not a simple matter, because there is another dimension as well. Breaking a foreign investor at this moment, when Albania has so many needs, is a barrier that is raised and that will be difficult for anyone else to overcome,” Brace said.

The Socialist MP also criticized parliamentary candidates from small parties, saying they did not win citizens’ support a year ago but are now trying to take over the leadership of the protest.

“The political agenda is boiling inside it, as long as I see there unelected and unelectable party leaders. I have noticed one thing both there in the square and in public. Candidates for MP in the most recent elections from these small parties have taken control of the protest. Adriatik Lapaj, Arlind Qori, are party leaders. But there are others there too who were their candidates in the elections a year ago. They lost. They lost by vote. These people present as an alternative a return thousands of years backward, to solutions of the square. The square choosing 101 representatives and 101 representatives choosing ministers whom I then have to vote for in parliament, this is madness,” Brace said.
