Bozhinovska: Macedonia is working intensively to join the European energy market

Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Minister Sanja Bozhinovska said that energy security today constitutes a shared obligation for the entire region and that it can only be guaranteed through interconnected infrastructure, coordinated policies, and joint investments.

She made these comments during the Informal Ministerial Council of the Energy Community in Pristina, attended by ministers from the Western Balkans, as well as representatives of the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat.

According to Bozhinovska, Macedonia is aiming to build a fully interconnected regional energy system, which in the future will integrate electricity, gas, and hydrogen networks. She also underlined that the country is actively working toward integration into the European energy market.

The minister said that the gas interconnector with Greece is expected to be completed by 2027, while the one with Serbia is in the preparatory phase and is projected to be completed around 2028. According to her, these projects will make possible new sources of supply, including liquefied natural gas via Greece.

At the meeting, Macedonia’s progress in aligning with European legislation in the field of energy was assessed, as was the launch of the intraday electricity market.

The minister stressed that the future of the region is tied to joint action and that integration into the European energy system will bring greater energy security, competitiveness, and investment attraction.

Special attention was given to the need to diversify supply sources, strengthen interconnections, and increase domestic energy production.
