Berisha calls for extraordinary Assembly session following Hague ruling

Veton Berisha, an MP from the Egyptian Liberal Party (PLE), has said he is ready to offer his support and signature for convening an extraordinary session of the Assembly of Kosovo. The session would address the situation in the country following the Specialist Chambers’ September 16 ruling against four former KLA leaders.

As a representative of the Egyptian community and the PLE’s sole MP in the Assembly, Berisha said the current circumstances require “political and institutional unity.”

He called on other MPs to support the initiative, noting that at least 40 signatures are required to enable an extraordinary session to be held.

Berisha said that following the session, a joint resolution could be drafted through which the Assembly would express its position and support for the continuation of the judicial proceedings.

According to him, the resolution could also include the expectation that the Court of Appeals review and correct the September 16 ruling, while respecting the relevant legal procedures and standards.

He added that the Assembly could also examine other possible constitutional and legal measures that fall within the powers of Kosovo’s institutions.

“I am ready to give my signature. Not in my name!” Berisha wrote.
