Bekim Meta’s lawyer: The defense opposed the detention request, court decision expected at 18:15

Luan Tasholli, the lawyer for KLA war veteran Bekim Meta, has spoken about the request by the Basic Prosecution in Pristina to impose a detention measure on his client.

According to him, the defense has already submitted its objections and legal reasoning in response to the prosecution’s request, while the next step belongs to the court, which is expected to make a decision.

“As the defense, we have presented our objections and our legal arguments regarding the prosecution’s request, so from this point on the court will withdraw to make a decision regarding the request for a detention measure, and we hope and strongly believe that our client will be released from this; in fact, my client will simply defend himself while free, or in other words the court will not impose the request for a detention measure as the harshest measure for ensuring the defendant’s presence during the proceedings. That is all for now; from this point on we are waiting for the court’s decision regarding the prosecution’s request to impose a detention measure,” Tasholli said.

The court’s decision on the Prosecution’s request against Bekim Meta is expected to be announced at 18:15.

At the Basic Court in Lipjan, in connection with this case, KLA war veteran Bekim Meta and his neighbor, Skender Shahini, are facing proceedings.

The incident is suspected to have occurred three days ago in the village of Magure in Lipjan, where a group of people from the Roma community are suspected of having attacked Skender Shahini in front of his house, as well as Bekim Meta, who had intervened to separate the parties.

Outside the court, a group of veterans and citizens from Lipjan are protesting in support of Bekim Meta and are calling on the justice authorities to handle the case fairly. According to them, Meta is innocent, as he intervened only to separate the parties.
