Begaj in the Presevo Valley: I will remain a voice for the rights of Albanians

During a visit to the Presevo Valley, Albania’s President, Bajram Begaj, met with political and institutional representatives of Albanians living in the area.

In a statement published on Facebook, Begaj said the talks focused on the concerns of Albanians in the region, the need to strengthen political cooperation, and projects aimed at supporting young people.

“Today I visited the Presevo Valley, where Albanians live in their own lands, unfortunately outside the mother country,” Begaj wrote.

He said he was received by local leaders, with whom he discussed issues directly related to the Albanian community.

“We spoke with the mayors, Ardita Sinani and Arbër Bajaziti, the only Albanian deputy in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, and the chairman of the Albanian National Council of the Presevo Valley, Enkel Rexhepi, about addressing the concerns of the Albanians of the Valley, strengthening the unity of the Albanian factor, as well as projects that will help the youth here,” the Albanian president stressed.

Begaj called on Albanian political leaders in the area to remain united whenever the protection of Albanians’ rights is at the center.

“I encouraged the political leaders of this area to unite whenever it is about the national interest, about protecting the rights of the Albanians of the Presevo Valley,” he wrote.

The head of the Albanian state also declared that official Albania will continue to support the demands of Albanians in the Presevo Valley.

“As President of the Republic of Albania, I guaranteed them Albania’s support in addressing the issue of the Presevo Valley, fair representation in institutions, concern over the deactivation of addresses, as well as the right to use the mother tongue and national symbols,” Begaj said.

He added that he would continue his engagement on this issue in the international arena as well.

“I assured them that I will continue to be, as I have been until now, their advocate, an advocate for the denied rights of the Albanians of the Valley in every international institution and chancery,” Begaj concluded.
