Begaj calls for young people to be heard and urges all sides to choose dialogue over violence

In an official message to citizens, President of the Republic Bajram Begaj responded today to the protests, rising tensions and incidents of violence in recent days in the capital and other parts of the country. He called on all sides to show prudence and restraint, stressing that the tensions must not endanger the constitutional order or the country’s stability.

In his message from Tirana, dated October 15, 2026, the head of state addressed citizens, describing Albania as the homeland that unites them and as everyone’s home. Begaj said he had followed the protests and the demands expressed, and voiced regret over the acts of violence recorded during the past two days.

According to the president, every citizen has the right to be heard, particularly young people, who carry Albania’s hopes and future. He emphasized that no one can or does call that right into question.

At the same time, Begaj rejected violence as a way to resolve problems, pointing to its consequences for society, citizens’ safety and the growing polarization of democratic life.

The head of state stressed that, in this situation, Albania needs calm, responsibility and communication between the parties. He urged them not to let differences become a cause of division, but to use them as an impetus to listen to one another and find solutions that serve citizens and the country.

Alongside his call for prudence and an end to violence, the president encouraged law enforcement officers as they carry out what he described as an extremely delicate duty. He also wished all those injured, both police officers and protesters, a speedy recovery.

Referring to the responsibilities and powers granted to him by the Constitution, Begaj said he was ready to offer anyone who wished it a space for dialogue and understanding. He called on those involved to commit to cooperation and dialogue for the benefit of young people and Albania.
