BDI accuses: Government changes are simply a reorganization of mistakes, not true reform

The Democratic Union for Integration party has reacted sharply to the proposed reshaping of the government cabinet, calling it not a genuine reform but a “reorganization of failures” and proof that partisan interests are prevailing over the common good.

During a press appearance, BDI focused attention on changes at the helm of the Ministry of Health, stressing that the outgoing minister ends his term without, according to them, fulfilling the key pledges made by the VLEN coalition during the pre-election period.

The Albanian opposition emphasizes that during this period, neither the promised reforms, nor the announced investments, nor the expected improvements in healthcare services have materialized.

“Citizens rightfully ask: where did the 74 million euros promised for the Tetovo Clinical Hospital go? What happened to the memorial park for the modular hospital?” stated BDI representatives.

The party also recalled a series of other VLEN commitments in healthcare, such as building six regional hospitals in areas mainly inhabited by Albanians, establishing a University Clinical Centre in Tetovo, providing free annual medical check-ups for every citizen, equipping every Albanian municipality with emergency centres and ambulances, and creating a specialised centre for wound and burn treatment.

According to BDI, none of these promises have been fulfilled so far.

“Replacing the minister constitutes neither reform nor political accountability. It is simply a public admission that VLEN failed to keep its word in the health sector. A failure is not covered up by changing the minister,” declared this political force.

BDI also criticized the proposal to appoint Ivan Stoilković as head of the Ministry of Local Self-Government. According to them, when he led the Ministry of Inter-Community Relations, the budget of that institution was reduced several times and now he will be placed at the helm of the department that oversees municipal affairs.

For BDI, this appointment represents a “political irony”, noting that the mayors from VLEN’s ranks, Bilall Kasami and Izet Mexhiti, will now be under the authority of the new Minister of Local Self-Government.

The opposition party also objected to the candidate proposed for the post of Minister of Justice, claiming that he has openly supported the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation, which BDI views as unacceptable due to the lack of ethnic quotas, enforcement instruments, and penalties for institutions that fail to meet representation obligations. According to them, his selection sends the message that the Government does not intend to strengthen the rule of law nor to preserve the essence of the Ohrid Framework Agreement.

In conclusion, BDI pointed out that these proposed changes will not produce more effective governance, but on the contrary show that VLEN has abandoned its commitments to Albanians and is acting in service of its governing allies’ agenda.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to defending the Ohrid Framework Agreement, fair and proportional representation, and citizens’ rights, vowing to oppose any initiative that, in its view, undermines these principles.
