BDI Accuses Executive: 2026 Budget Review Overshadows Albanian Community’s Demands

The Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) expressed its position today regarding the 2026 Budget review.

According to them, after concluding discussions on this rebalance, it has become evident that the current government has once again shown an indifferent approach towards the interests of Albanians.

The BDI parliamentary group had submitted a considerable number of well-argued amendments that reflected the concrete needs of the population. These proposals were not politically motivated, but aimed to increase funding for Albanian municipalities, strengthen regional development, and secure funds for vital sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, seeking a more proportional distribution of the budget.

All submitted amendments were rejected without exception.

This behavior, according to BDI, is a repeated scheme of the government, which systematically dismisses any initiative aimed at improving the quality of life in areas predominantly inhabited by Albanians.

When a project like the University Clinic in Tetovo is denied financial support, when the Kërçovo Hospital is not given additional funds, when balanced regional development is neglected, and when there is a lack of clarity on capital projects in municipalities, then the question rightly arises: Are Albanians valued by the same measure as the rest of the population?

Instead of easing existing imbalances, this executive is deepening them. Instead of channeling resources where emergencies are most acute, it continues to privilege the same regions and neglect Albanian municipalities.

The numerical data are eloquent. Funds for balanced regional development have been reduced. No allocation has been foreseen for the University Clinic in Tetovo. Investments in Albanian municipalities have not increased. Transparency regarding the distribution of capital investments leaves much to be desired. In parallel, every recommendation coming from the ranks of the Albanian opposition has been opposed without any willingness for discussion.

This stance sends a strong political signal. The government often speaks of equality, but at the moment when this must be materialized through the budget, Albanians are left out of priority consideration.

Faced with this injustice, BDI declares that it will not remain silent. They will continue to insist that every resident has equal access to public funds, whether from Tetovo, Gostivar, Kërçovo, Struga, Çairi, Saraji, or any other municipality with an Albanian population.

This party emphasizes that the state Budget must not be turned into a tool of partisan favoritism, but must function as a mechanism for symmetric development and justice for all citizens.

According to them, the complete rejection of the amendments does not merely constitute a rejection of the opposition, but a denial of the demands and aspirations of tens of thousands of Albanian citizens who await investments and equal treatment.

This way of formulating policies represents not only a majoritarian tendency and an undemocratic practice, but this type of imposition, according to BDI, creates the conditions for an authoritarian system, which runs counter to aspirations for European integration.
