Balliu on Veliaj’s letter: Rama controls SPAK and decides who is jailed and who stays out

A letter sent by Erion Veliaj from prison has prompted a public response from Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu. In a post, he described it as further evidence of the control that he claims Prime Minister Edi Rama exercises over SPAK, using it to exert political pressure even on his own associates.

Balliu alleges that the justice minister, acting on the prime minister’s orders, is threatening Veliaj with additional charges through SPAK if he does not comply with the demands made of him.

According to the Democratic Party MP, this case shows that it is Rama who determines the charges, decides whom to send to prison through SPAK and whom to keep out.

In his response, Balliu said Rama’s latest actions were causing divisions within the Socialist Party while also substantiating claims the opposition has long made.

Referring to Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, he urged people to imagine what Rama has done to the opposition and its leaders when, he alleged, Rama uses SPAK as a tool to punish even his own people.

In conclusion, Balliu called for a commitment to a truly independent SPAK that would hold both Rama and those the MP describes as Rama’s people within SPAK accountable.
