Ballistic examination sheds light on new details about the death of 36-year-old Albanian Gjovalin Lazri

Investigations into the serious incident in Baldissero d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo, have brought to light new details following a ballistic examination related to the death of 36-year-old Gjovalin Lazri, who was of Albanian origin.

According to the preliminary findings, the shots are believed to have been fired from a distance of less than 14 meters.

Roberto Mollo, 35, the owner of the home where the incident occurred, is under investigation. He is suspected of taking the firearm after hearing noises and noticing people inside his property.

During an examination of the scene, 12 shell casings were found in the same area of the property. Experts are analyzing this evidence to determine the firing position and the direction of the bullets.

Three flashlights were also discovered at the scene, one of them near Gjovalin Lazri’s body.

The investigators’ initial reconstruction suggests that Mollo was awakened by noises outside the house and went out onto the balcony on the first floor. From there, according to the investigative hypothesis, he fired toward the lights of the flashlights carried by the people on the property.

One of the bullets struck Lazri in the neck, causing the wound that proved fatal.

The ballistic examination lasted more than five hours. It examined the bullet trajectories, the distance of the shots and the positions of the people at the time of the incident. As part of the procedure, test shots and simulations were also carried out at the site where the incident occurred.

Experts representing the prosecution, Roberto Mollo’s defense and the victim’s family are taking part in the investigation. The Asti Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its work to fully reconstruct the dynamics of the incident, while Mollo is being investigated for murder.

Investigators are expected to return to the scene during the night to check the lighting and visibility conditions in circumstances as similar as possible to those on the night when the incident occurred.

The incident took place in the early hours of September 20, when several people are suspected of entering the Mollo family’s property. Immediately after the shots were fired, the 35-year-old himself called the emergency number 112 and notified the authorities that he had shot a person, stating that he had acted in self-defense.

Investigations are continuing to establish precisely how the incident occurred and to determine the responsibility of those involved.
