Bajqinovci: Vetëvendosje did not support the LDK and PDK candidates for deputy speakers because it seeks to avoid elections

Vetëvendosje MP Mefail Bajqinovci said that MPs from his party did not vote for the LDK and PDK candidates for the positions of deputy speakers of Parliament. According to him, Vetëvendosje’s aim is to establish all the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, not to send the country to elections.

Bajqinovci said that the opposition’s positions, including the statement by LDK MP Avdullah Hoti that Parliament should be constituted and Kosovo should then go to elections, show that there is a demand to activate the 60-day deadline leading to new elections.

He stressed that Vetëvendosje does not want the process to end with elections, but aims to fully operationalize the institutions. Bajqinovci also mentioned candidate Kujtim Shala, who, after reaching an agreement with Vetëvendosje, appeared publicly with his group of six MPs and, according to him, obstructed the election of the president while openly calling for the country to go to elections.

Speaking about the failure to vote for Vlora Çitaku as a deputy speaker from the PDK, Bajqinovci linked the issue to developments the previous day. He said that the PDK had not voted for Albulena Haxhiu, was not supporting the election of the president or the speaker of Parliament, while at the same time asking Vetëvendosje MPs to vote for the deputy speakers.

According to Bajqinovci, this approach is the opposite of the goal of establishing the institutions, since the same MPs who are seeking votes for the deputy speakers also want Kosovo to go to elections.

The Vetëvendosje MP also said that the six LDK MPs who are opposing Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president should return and vote for him so that the country does not end up in elections.
