Bahri Cani: Elections in Serbia ended Vučić’s rule, Dačić out of parliament

The admission of defeat by Aleksandar Vučić and the results of Serbia’s snap elections have refocused attention on the country’s political future, as well as on the possibility that the long-standing dominance of the parties in power may be coming to an end.

Deutsche Welle journalist Bahri Cani described the result as an electoral catastrophe for Vučić and Ivica Dačić. He said the triumph of the Student List could bring about a significant political shift in Serbia, expressing hope that this change would be for the better, “Bota Sot” reports.

According to the results so far, the Student List has received more than 52 percent of the vote, securing an absolute majority. Meanwhile, Vučić’s list has garnered less than 40 percent. These are considered the only Serbian parties expected to be represented in the new parliament.

The next parliament is also expected to include the Hungarians with three deputies, the Albanians with two deputies, in all likelihood, and the Bosniaks with one deputy. However, the final results have not yet been officially announced.

An extremely festive atmosphere prevails in Serbia after Vučić lost the snap elections. For Cani, this marks not only the political end of Vučić, but also of Dačić, while the Socialist Party is not expected to pass the electoral threshold.

Serbia now faces major political change, with hope that it will move in the right direction.
