Aurela Gaçe remembers Enrik Mehmeti: I promised to make the song, that was our last conversation

Popular singer Aurela Gaçe honored the memory of journalist Enrik Mehmeti, who passed away suddenly, evoking his unwavering generosity towards artists.

During the homage, she revealed that their last communication had taken place just seven days earlier, when Mehmeti had offered her boating equipment for the video of her new music project.

Gaçe made a public commitment to complete the song they had discussed, calling it a sacred obligation stemming from that final conversation. She described his passing as a severe blow not only to his family but also to the media environment, portraying Mehmeti as one of the bravest figures in the field.

“Above all, it is a huge tragedy for his home, especially when you think that he leaves behind two young children and had just become a father of a son. I knew him beyond the role of journalist, I knew him as a person. Whenever I asked him for a favor, he was ready, and not only for me, but for many other fellow artists, whether it was to provide watercraft, vehicles or to find shooting locations. He supported me by personally accompanying me on boats, communicating with his acquaintances. Sacrificing your time to give to others speaks of your generosity and your essence as a human being. You might do such a thing once, but he did it repeatedly,” she said.

“The last time I spoke with him was a week ago. I happened to be in Vlorë for filming and a week ago I spoke to him and he told me: ‘If you need a large fleet of boats, 100 of them, brother will line them up there for you.’ And I told him: ‘I’m going to make a song.’ Now that I gave him my promise, I will do it, I will do it because it was our last conversation.”
