In a post on platform X, the head of the German government noted that hundreds of thousands of citizens had come together to celebrate in a spirit of peace, conveying messages of mutual respect and acceptance.
“They aimed to promote kindness and tolerance among us. This act constitutes an attack on the very fabric of our society,” Merz stated in his official reaction.
He reaffirmed Germany’s image as a free and welcoming nation, adding that these fundamental principles are inviolable and will be resolutely preserved.
The Chancellor expressed his full support for the injured and their families, while assuring that law enforcement agencies will conduct thorough investigations and that the perpetrator will face the severest legal consequences.
