Athens murder: Investigation focuses on 45-year-old woman’s relationship with 48-year-old suspect

Greek authorities are continuing their intensive investigation into the murder of the 45-year-old woman in Nea Smyrni, focusing on the relationship the victim had with the 48-year-old man suspected of committing the crime. In an effort to reconstruct the events that preceded the murder, investigators are examining evidence seized from residences, as well as data from mobile phones.

Greek media report that police have obtained video footage documenting movements in the building where the crime took place, moments before the gunshots were fired. According to the initial findings, the 48-year-old is suspected of having arranged for someone to remain near the 45-year-old woman’s home, while he himself waited for her to come outside.

As soon as the woman stepped out of the apartment door, the 48-year-old allegedly threatened her with a revolver and forced her to kneel. He then fired two shots at her. The same sources report that the first bullet did not hit the victim, while the second proved fatal.

Investigators are also verifying suspicions that the 45-year-old woman may previously have been threatened by the 48-year-old. Published information indicates that she feared for her life and had taken protective measures, including changing the locks at the home where she lived with her minor daughter.

Items found in the 48-year-old’s vehicle have also been examined as part of the investigation. It is suspected that bullets of the same caliber as those used in the murder were discovered inside, while the revolver believed to have been used to commit the crime is described as a relatively new weapon.
