Associated Press: Trump and Rubio are weighing Kimberly Guilfoyle’s removal as ambassador to Greece

Kimberly Guilfoyle’s future as head of the United States embassy in Greece is being discussed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to the Associated Press, which cites a senior U.S. official, they are considering removing her following allegations of inappropriate conduct and possible legal violations.

At the center of these discussions, the agency reports, is a series of articles by The Wall Street Journal. The articles have questioned whether the ambassador’s practices comply with ethics rules and have highlighted suspicions of possible legal violations.

The information published about Guilfoyle has provoked deep dissatisfaction among senior officials in the Trump administration. The Associated Press source, who requested anonymity, described the president’s and secretary of state’s anger as extraordinary and said that the next steps could be decided within this week.

Rubio, according to reports, is particularly dissatisfied with the matter. His discontent is said to have deepened after his recent trip to Athens: Guilfoyle welcomed him with a warm embrace and stood beside him during most public events, while the allegations against her had already attracted public attention.

As the U.S. administration assesses the alternatives available to it, it is expected to become clearer in the coming days whether Kimberly Guilfoyle will continue to head the U.S. diplomatic mission in Athens.
