Around $15,000 a night”/ Marjana Koçeku: Rama spends five years of an Albanian’s pension on one night in New York

MP Marjana Koçeku has commented on a video posted on social media by Albanians in New York, showing Prime Minister Edi Rama and his delegation outside the hotel where they are staying.

According to Koçeku, the hotel in the Tribeca area where Rama is staying has rooms costing around $15,000 per night. The MP compared this amount with the income of Albanian pensioners and called for clarification over who is paying for the stay.

Koçeku stressed that such an amount would be equivalent to around 60 months of pension for an Albanian pensioner, if the quoted price proves accurate.

“For 511,000 Albanian pensioners, this means around 60 months of pension. And I don’t believe he took the smallest room,” she said.

The MP noted that the main issue is not only the cost of the room, but also the person or institution that will cover the bill.

“This bill means three things: either the state pays it, meaning you do, or he pays it himself. And a photo of the bill would settle the matter. Why is someone else paying the bill? The question is no longer how much, but who?” Koçeku declared.

According to her, the video posted by Albanians in New York shows that the prime minister is staying at a hotel in Tribeca, where the smallest room is 22 square meters and costs around $15,000 per night.
