Arifi: Kosovo’s NATO Membership Is Impossible Without US Approval

Dritëro Arifi, a political affairs analyst, considers support from the United States of America the decisive factor in Kosovo’s accession to NATO. According to him, this goal cannot be achieved without the green light from Washington.

He stressed that even if Kosovo had an army with the same capabilities and level of preparedness as those of France or Germany, it would not be enough to secure membership in the North Atlantic Alliance without US support.

“Unless the US says ‘yes,’ even if we had an army with the level of preparedness of France or Germany, we could not become a member of NATO,” Arifi said.

In his assessment, admission to NATO is determined not only by military capabilities but is also linked to the political positions of member states. In this process, he described the role of the United States as decisive.

“Unless the US says ‘yes,’ you can never become a member of NATO. Even if there are political obstacles, they can be resolved. But when we do not have a resounding ‘YES’ from America, imagine what the countries within NATO that do not recognize Kosovo would say,” he stated.
