Ardian Arifaj: September 12 March Aims to Unite All Citizens

Ardian Arifaj, a former adviser to Hashim Thaçi, has commented on the march announced for September 12, which is being organized in support of the former KLA leaders standing trial in The Hague.

During the program “Info Magazine” on Klan Kosova, he said the event had been conceived as a nationwide march and that the invitation therefore extended to every citizen, regardless of political affiliation.

“As far as I know, everyone is invited, and I am not aware of any discussions about who should or should not be invited, because the march was conceived as a nationwide event and the invitation is open to everyone. This is not only about the fate of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi or the others in The Hague. It is not only their fate that is at stake, but that of Kosovo as a whole and its future—not only its past, but also the future of the state of Kosovo, how much it will be accepted and how much it will be challenged in the future if we receive a decision of the kind that we neither want nor expect,” Arifaj said.

In his assessment, an unfavorable ruling by the Specialist Chambers could also have consequences for the way Kosovo constructs its narrative about its past and future.

Arifaj also said that the September 12 march is expected to mark the culmination of a campaign and several activities that have already begun in Kosovo’s municipalities.
