ARA Warns Citizens Who Throw Rubbish from Vehicles onto Roads: Cameras Will Identify You and We Will Fine You

The Albanian Road Authority has warned of penalties for drivers and passengers who throw waste from vehicles, stressing that littering on roads constitutes a violation of the law. According to the ARA, people who pollute public spaces face fines ranging from 65,000 to 200,000 lek.

“Under Law No. 57/2025, dated 16.10.2025, ‘On Integrated Waste Management,’ offenders are punishable by a FINE OF 65,000 TO 200,000 LEK,” the ARA announcement states.

Inspections along the road network are expected to be intensified in the coming days in cooperation with the State Police. Smart cameras will also be used to identify violations. The ARA said that cases of waste being thrown from vehicles will be documented and the appropriate measures will be taken against offenders.

The authority urged citizens not to throw waste out of vehicle windows, but to keep it with them and dispose of it in designated areas.

“In the coming days, the ARA, in cooperation with the State Police, will intensify monitoring through smart cameras along the road network to identify cases of waste being thrown from vehicles,” the ARA statement continued.

Albania’s roads are not rubbish bins.

At a time when thousands of citizens and tourists travel across the country every day, acts of irresponsibility by those who throw waste from vehicles or abandon it in areas alongside roads will no longer be tolerated.

ARA maintenance crews are on the ground every day cleaning and maintaining the road network. But their work cannot become an endless cycle of cleaning because of individuals who choose to litter.

Throwing a bottle, bag or any other waste from a vehicle is a VIOLATION OF THE LAW.
