Andonovski: The m.Services app will bring electronic ID cards and driver’s licenses to phones

The m.Services mobile application has been completed and is currently in the testing phase. Its use will not be mandatory, so citizens will be able to continue using their existing physical documents.

Through this application, personal documents will be accessible in electronic format. The initial version will include an electronic ID card, an electronic driver’s license and several digital public administration services.

Minister Andonovski said on the “Between the Lines” program on Alfa television that the application will be officially presented to citizens during a major event expected to take place in October.

“I promised that in the second half of the mandate we would manage to prepare a mobile application. Now I can finally say that it is ready and that we are currently testing it. In October, we will organize a major event at which we will promote it to citizens,” Andonovski said.

According to him, m.Services was conceived as a single platform where citizens can find documents and services related to the state.

“We envision it as an application that you will need for everything you want to do that is connected with the state. Currently, there are several different applications and systems, and our goal is to bring citizen services together in one place. Initially, the application will provide an electronic driver’s license and electronic ID card, as well as several electronic services from the public administration,” Andonovski emphasized.

The application was developed as part of a project worth 1.5 million euros, in cooperation with the relevant institutions of Poland, Ukraine and the European Union.

Andonovski explained that the state did not pay for the development of the application, while the product was created by engineers from Macedonia and will remain the property of the state.

“The state did not pay for the development of the application. This is a major project that we brought in 2024 in cooperation with the Polish and Ukrainian ministries and the European Union. The application was developed by Macedonian engineers, it is a Macedonian product and remains the property of the state,” Andonovski said.

The current version will be continuously expanded with new features and content. The aim is for m.Services to become a European digital wallet by 2028, as also envisaged in the Reform Agenda.

“This is the first version, and there is expected to be room for improvement. Nevertheless, we are already thinking about a second version, which will contain more functionalities and will gradually develop into a genuine digital wallet. The ultimate goal, also set out in the Reform Agenda, is for it to become a European digital wallet by 2028. With this, Macedonia will be among the first fifteen European countries to have this kind of modern application,” Andonovski concluded.

He also announced that some institutions still do not accept citizens’ electronic documents, despite being legally required to do so.

“Legal entities, that is, institutions that do not comply with the law, will be subject to the prescribed penalties. In the coming period, this will be monitored by the competent inspectorate. We have allowed sufficient time and room for adaptation, but now we must enforce the law and keep pace with the world,” Andonovski emphasized.
