Andonovski: Construction of the national data center expected to begin during the government’s term

The national data center is expected to begin construction by the end of the current government’s term, Digital Transformation Minister Stefan Andonovski said in an interview with “360 Degrees.” According to him, the project will not begin in the spring of 2027, as initially planned.

Andonovski explained that, due to the Growth Plan, the contracts must be signed during 2027. For this reason, he expects the foundation stone of the center to be laid that same year, provided there are no early parliamentary elections.

Asked whether the country has the necessary capacities to carry out this investment, the minister said the project is feasible, particularly if appropriate technical support, advice and supervision are secured from abroad.

He stressed that the procedure will be conducted at the international level, depending on the requirements of the financiers, who will also determine how the contractor is selected. Some procurement procedures may be carried out at the national level if the financiers allow it, while others may be conducted internationally.

Andonovski said that bringing together capable domestic companies would enable the country to undertake this project. According to him, 7-8 data centers have already been built in the country by domestic companies, with smaller areas than the planned center, but not particularly small ones. He added that the construction experience of these companies demonstrates that the capacity for such an investment exists. /Telegrafi/
