AMP arrests 4 police officers in Shkodra, suspected of allowing a convict to escape house arrest

Four police officers in Shkodra were caught in the act and arrested by the Police Oversight Agency (AMP), on suspicion of the criminal offense of “Abuse of office.”

According to the official statement, the case was uncovered after information was received that citizen Hasan Verracaku, who had been placed under the security measure of “House arrest,” was not at the residence where he was supposed to be kept under supervision and guard.

Following checks and investigative actions carried out by AMP specialists, inspectors Dorjan Hasandoçaj, Gentian Xhanari and Dioniz Hotaj, as well as employee Ridvan Zefi, were arrested in flagrante. All four were serving with the Operational Corps of the National Security Unit in Shkodra.

In its statement, the Police Oversight Agency (Shkodra-Lezha Regional Directorate) said that the four police employees are suspected of having committed the elements of the criminal offense of “Abuse of office,” provided for under Article 248 of the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, Hasan Verracaku is suspected of committing the criminal offense of “A prisoner leaving the place of stay,” under Article 323 of the Criminal Code, after violating the conditions of the security measure imposed by court decision.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Shkodra for further action.
