Albulena Haxhiu Offers Condolences to the Kryeziu Family: Eqrem Kryeziu, a Distinguished Intellectual Kosovo Will Miss

Albulena Haxhiu, who is serving as president, has sent a message of condolence to the Kryeziu family following the death of former Prizren mayor Eqrem Kryeziu.

In her message, Haxhiu described the deceased as a distinguished intellectual and activist who, for more than five decades, had intertwined his life with books, education and knowledge.

“With his passing, Kosovo lost a distinguished intellectual and activist of a generation that built its commitment to the country on knowledge and responsibility,” the message reads.

She noted that Eqrem Kryeziu was first and foremost a professor and a man of letters, and that for more than half a century his life had been inseparable from the world of books, education and knowledge.

“Even in politics, he remained a man with his own way of thinking, direct in his speech, with a subtle irony and a distinctive way of expressing himself, for which the public knew and remembered him,” she stressed.

According to Haxhiu, Eqrem Kryeziu’s name is particularly associated with Prizren, where for many years he was part of the city’s political life and which he led as mayor during the early years of postwar local government.

“His contribution continued in the Kosovo Assembly and in the country’s political life, but Eqrem Kryeziu’s legacy cannot be summed up by the positions he held. He will be remembered as a distinguished professor, intellectual and activist with a prominent individuality, who left his mark on Kosovo’s political and cultural life,” the condolence message concludes.
