Alarming incident at a school in Italy: 6-year-old found with a 13-centimeter kitchen knife in his backpack

An alarming incident occurred at the primary school in Trepuzzi, in Italy’s Lecce province, where a 6-year-old student was found carrying a 13-centimeter kitchen knife inside his school backpack.

The incident came to light during class after a classmate alerted the teacher that there was a bladed weapon in the backpack. After the bag was searched, the knife was found, and the school administration immediately notified the parents and the relevant authorities.

Carabinieri officers arrived at the scene, while social services were also mobilized. According to preliminary information, the child is suspected of having been encouraged by a classmate to bring the knife to school following a previous conflict between the students.

The Carabinieri have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident, under the coordination of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office in Lecce.

Trepuzzi Mayor Giuseppe Maria Taurino said that the situation was under control and urged parents and citizens not to panic or spread unconfirmed information.

“It is a critical matter that cannot and must not leave us indifferent,” the mayor said, emphasizing that the case involves minors and requires the utmost attention and responsibility.
