Air traffic control problems cause more than 250 flights to be canceled at UK airports

A fault in the air traffic control system caused more than 250 flights to be canceled this morning at 15 airports across the United Kingdom.

Data from flight-tracking platform Flightradar24 shows that the greatest impact was seen at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Heathrow topped the list of affected airports, with 246 flights canceled by 06:00. Gatwick reported 33 cancellations, while 16 flights were canceled at Heathrow between 07:00 and 08:00 alone.

The impact was also felt at other airports. Flights from Manchester to Heathrow and Paris were canceled, while routes to Heathrow, Luton and Gatwick were affected in Glasgow.

Disruptions are expected to continue throughout the day, with further delays and cancellations. The previous day, around 1,300 flights were canceled at British airports.

Travel expert and journalist Simon Calder told Sky News that the disruption would also have a significant impact today. “There will be dozens of morning cancellations of flights arriving at Heathrow because the flights did not operate overnight,” Calder warned.
