Ahmeti from Dibra: The Ohrid Agreement Remains Untouched

The BDI branch in Dibra held its Electoral Assembly last night, where the branch’s new leadership structures were elected and Burtint Sela was placed at its head.

BDI leader Ali Ahmeti said that the political force he leads remains committed to ensuring that the Ohrid Agreement and the Prespa Agreement are implemented in North Macedonia, while at the same time preserving good relations with neighboring countries. “We want a North Macedonia where all citizens are equal. The constitution we have is based on the Ohrid Agreement and is guaranteed by America, Europe and NATO. Therefore, no one can undo it. Albanians won freedom with blood. Today someone says we need a new agreement. No, the Ohrid Agreement is internationally guaranteed and must be fully respected,” Ahmeti said.

A large part of his address at the Electoral Assembly of the BDI branch in Dibra was also dedicated to criticism of the Albanian partner in the Government. He described the VLEN representatives as incapable of fulfilling the rights of Albanians. “Before the elections, VLEN promised a lot, but has done nothing. They also failed with the Law on the Use of Languages, which is by no means a law that protects the interests of Albanians,” Ahmeti said.

He did not spare criticism either for the Macedonian parties VMRO-DPMNE and LSDM, saying that they continue to make major mistakes when it comes to the position of Albanians. “These Macedonian parties want to have Albanians in the Government as what they call ‘obedient’ ones, and not the Albanians of BDI, whom they label as ‘terrorists’,” Ahmeti said.

Arbana Pasholli, Dibra’s MP in the Parliament of North Macedonia, also spoke at the party event, sharply criticizing VLEN. According to her, this party has lowered and damaged the position of Albanians in the country.
