Ahmeti: European Integration and the Ohrid Agreement Are the Two Pillars of the Country’s Future

The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, met today with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Özlem Canel.

According to DUI, the discussion focused on the need for the country to return as soon as possible to a path that would allow the European Union accession process to continue.

Ahmeti said that further delays in integration are distancing the country from its European future, weakening institutions and increasing political, economic and social uncertainty.

Another issue he raised was serious concern over the continued attacks on the Ohrid Agreement and the achievements that ensure equality, interethnic cohesion and the country’s stability.

The DUI leader said the agreement forms the foundation of peace and the democratic functioning of the state, warning that undermining it directly affects overall stability and interethnic relations.

The meeting also addressed recent political developments, the rule of law, security issues and the challenges facing the region. Ahmeti stressed that international partners must clearly heed the alarm over the situation in the country.

“European integration and the Ohrid Agreement are the two foundations underpinning the country’s democracy, stability and future,” Ahmeti said.
