On Monday, in an interview with News24, activist Ilir Dedaj declared that civil disobedience is the only way to bring about the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.

He commented on the protest, adding that it is not enough for people to simply remain in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, and called for democratic civic civil disobedience.

“Personally, as someone participating in the protest, I have tried to unite the entire pro-protest, anti-government movement and turn it into democratic civic civil disobedience, which may be the only solution for removing the prime minister and the entire system. We must prepare to deliver the final blow to this regime. We cannot remain in the streets forever, carrying out the same daily routine. The entire political establishment has focused on extinguishing the protest,” the activist said.

According to him, the protest has managed to weaken Rama’s government, and this is also reflected in the fact that members of parliament are trying to hide from the protesters.

“In my view, it has weakened it. Even the prime minister’s reactions at the beginning of this protest—what hasn’t he called us? It has had an effect. Take the latest case, when they changed the meeting at the Socialist Party headquarters. Today, MPs are afraid of the protest. Are these the people elected by the public? Why are they hiding? It is clear everywhere that the protest has had an effect,” he said.

Commenting on the fact that the diaspora will also take to the square on September 12, the activist said they should remain there until Rama surrenders.

“We want to come on the 12th and remain there until Rama is brought down. This also requires internal support. We need the numbers to engage in democratic civic civil disobedience,” he added.
