Abdixhiku: No Individual Stands Above the LDK, but This Initiative Is Wrong

Lumir Abdixhiku, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, who is facing an effort to remove him from the party leadership, has called the calling of the extraordinary Assembly incorrect and unnecessary.

During his speech to delegates, he stated that this move is “wrong, inappropriate, and premature,” emphasizing that the reason is not related to the fact that it targets the chairman, because according to him, no person is more important than the party and no one holds the positions entrusted to them forever.

Abdixhiku stressed that the meeting was organized unilaterally, precisely at a delicate phase for the state and a decisive moment for the LDK itself.

The chairman added that this gathering is also unnecessary because the last extraordinary Assembly took place only a few months ago, while the regular party Assembly is planned to be held in a few months.

He described the initiative as wrong also due to the state of institutional crisis in which Kosovo finds itself, emphasizing that the people are demanding the building of institutions and not divisions within political forces.

Abdixhiku warned that these developments could erode the electorate’s trust in the LDK and described the request for his dismissal as an act of irresponsibility before the state and citizens.

He stressed that the party’s leadership issue should be resolved through its regular electoral processes. Concluding his speech, he challenged the delegates by asking what position the LDK would be in if the same level of commitment had been demonstrated during the national elections.

With the conclusion of Abdixhiku’s speech, the extraordinary Assembly session continued without the presence of journalists, where the delegates will decide on his future at the party’s helm.
