83rd Protest: Rama’s Resignation and the Formation of a Technical Government Demanded

During the 83rd protest against Prime Minister Edi Rama, protesters once again presented their main demands.

According to them, Edi Rama’s removal from office and the government’s resignation are non-negotiable demands.

Protesters are demanding the non-negotiable resignation of the prime minister and the government.

Another demand is the establishment of a non-partisan, technical and transitional government with a 12-month mandate.

They are also calling for constitutional changes guaranteeing the equality of all Albanian citizens before the law, as well as their approval through a popular referendum.

The requested changes include a review of the Electoral Code.

Protesters are also demanding amendments to the law regulating the financing of political parties and various organizations.

Another demand is to limit the exercise of the prime minister’s office to no more than 2 full or partial terms during an individual’s lifetime.

Protesters stress that they are not backing down from the demands presented at the beginning of the protests.

These include the cancellation of the changes made to protected areas.

They are also calling for the cancellation of the amendments approved to the law on cultural heritage.

Another demand is the repeal of the legislative package known as the “Mountain Pact.”

They are also calling for the repeal of the status and legal framework for strategic investments.

Protesters are also demanding the drafting of a new social contract between citizens and the state. According to them, this contract should be prepared following consultations with intellectuals, technical experts and non-partisan citizens proposed by the protest square.
