44-year-old man from Ohrid dies after swallowing a packet of drugs during police stop

A tragic incident was recorded last night in Ohrid, after a 44-year-old man lost his life in circumstances that began with a police pursuit.

According to the information, on 08.07.2026 at around 22:30, on “Turisticka” Boulevard in Ohrid, police attempted to stop a passenger vehicle, a “Range Rover” with Czech national license plates, but the driver ignored the patrol’s signal and drove away.

After further intervention, officers managed to stop the vehicle and arrested I.M. (32) from Ohrid, who was behind the wheel.

At the same moment, police officers established that S.P. (44) from Ohrid was also in the car, and he immediately swallowed a packet of narcotics. After that, his health condition deteriorated.

Police notified the Emergency Medical Service, whose vehicle transported S.P. to the General Hospital in Ohrid, but despite the doctors’ intervention, he died there.

The Ohrid Internal Affairs Department said that, by order of the public prosecutor, an autopsy will be carried out today at the General Hospital in Bitola. Also, according to the public prosecutor’s instructions, measures are being taken to fully clarify the incident./Telegrafi/
