33-Year-Old Migrant Found Guilty of Raping Elderly Woman Near London Church

Brooke Dessallier, 33, originally from Eritrea, has been found guilty of raping an elderly woman near St John’s Church in Harrow, north-west London.

British authorities described him as a dangerous individual who had targeted a defenseless and vulnerable victim.

According to evidence presented at Harrow Crown Court, the incident occurred at around midnight on July 23 last year. The 33-year-old moved the elderly woman, who was intoxicated, from a bench and took her behind a fence to a grassy area, where he sexually assaulted her.

The attack lasted around 20 minutes and ended only after a woman who had witnessed the incident from the window of her home intervened by immediately alerting the police.

Prosecutor Simon Shannon said footage from local council security cameras showed the defendant pulling the victim from the bench toward the grassy area.

Prosecutors said he would pause the attack whenever someone passed by or approached the area.

When officers arrived at the church, Dessallier was found hiding behind a sign belonging to the religious building, while the elderly woman was lying on the ground.

During questioning, he initially claimed that he had wanted to help the woman after seeing that she was intoxicated. The 33-year-old used an interpreter during the trial.

However, after police showed him the camera footage, he ended the interview, consulted his lawyer and then refused to answer any further questions. He also did not testify during the trial.

Defense lawyers told jurors there was insufficient evidence to prove rape, warning them not to allow their emotional reaction to the case to influence their verdict.

However, the jury found Dessallier guilty. According to reports, he showed no emotion even when footage of the attack was played in the courtroom.

Following the verdict, the lead investigator described the 33-year-old as a “dangerous offender,” emphasizing that he had targeted an elderly, defenseless and vulnerable woman.

He also praised the swift response of members of the public, which helped officers arrest the suspect at the scene.

Meanwhile, British police have urged anyone who may have experienced similar sexual assaults to contact the authorities, assuring them that they will receive support and that their cases will be handled with care.
