302 Million Euro Military Loan with the US/ DP Denounces: 55 Lawmakers Approved the Deal Without Reading It

The parliamentary debate over the 302 million euro loan agreement with the United States has flared up again, as the Democratic Party questions how many deputies actually had knowledge of the document before the vote. The Assembly administration, for its part, assures that all requested materials were made available to the opposition group.

According to data the opposition says it has obtained from the institution, only 27 members of the Assembly completed the secrecy clearance forms to be allowed to view the text of the agreement. Of these, 19 deputies present at the approval session belong to the largest political force, the DP claims.

This situation, according to the Democrats’ calculations, shows that as many as 55 voters in the chamber gave their consent without being previously informed about the details, casting a shadow over the transparency of the legislative procedure.

On the other hand, the Assembly’s information office clarifies that, in response to the opposition’s request, it has submitted the entire legal file: the draft law, the documentation for following the expedited procedure, the request for a closed-door meeting, as well as the self-declarations of those who confirmed access to the content and the commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

The transmitted package also includes the final act of ratification and the voting minutes from the July 27th plenary session.

At the center of the clash remains the manner in which this loan, part of the American foreign military financing program, was handled in parliament. The main opposition force has deemed the process unlawful and is warning of an appeal to the Constitutional Court, while the majority insists that everything was carried out in accordance with the laws in force.
