28-Year-Old Accused of Murdering Former British Minister Anne Widdecombe to Appear in Court Tomorrow

Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old British national, has been charged with the murder of former minister Anne Widdecombe. He is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London.

Widdecombe, 78, was found on July 9 at her home in southwest England with serious injuries to her body. Her death was recorded earlier this month.

Investigators are working to determine possible motives for the crime and establish whether the incident may be linked to political or terrorist circles. Frank Ferguson, a prosecutor with the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said the investigation was ongoing and that no line of inquiry had been ruled out.

From 1992 to 1997, Anne Widdecombe served as a minister in John Major’s Conservative government. She later became a prominent figure in Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, serving as its spokesperson on immigration and justice.

Although she left Parliament in 2010, Widdecombe remained active in public life through her political positions. She was known for her conservative views, her opposition to the legalisation of abortion and her stances on social issues.

The former British MP had also converted to Catholicism. She had linked her decision in part to her opposition to the ordination of women in the Church of England.

British authorities are continuing their efforts to fully establish the circumstances of her death and identify the suspected motive for the attack.
