14 September rally in Tirana / Police arrest 12 people and refer 15 others for prosecution

Following the rally held in Tirana on September 14, police arrested 12 people in the act, while 15 others were criminally prosecuted while remaining at liberty.

According to the official statement, the gathering began at around 7:30 a.m. in Skanderbeg Square, without the required permit. The participants then marched toward Durrës Street and stopped near a high school, where, according to police, they called on students to boycott classes and join the rally.

Police said that the security perimeter of the school was breached during the protest. In addition, several protesters failed to comply with orders to leave and clear the sidewalk so that citizens could continue passing through.

Police said that, during the escorting of participants, some of them forcibly resisted police officers.

In connection with the incident, 12 citizens were arrested in the act, while 15 others will be criminally prosecuted while remaining at liberty.

The case materials prepared for the proceedings have been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction for further action.

The individuals involved are suspected of having committed the criminal offenses of “Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations,” “Resisting a public order police officer,” “Disobeying a police officer’s order,” “Disturbing the public peace,” and “Inciting minors to commit a crime.”
